The S&P 500 futures opened the globex session at 2066.00 up a handle and maintained a 10 handle range, but made its daily high and low during the globex session as the cash session would trade inside the globex range.
At the regular trading hours open, the S&P futures opened at 2066.75 and traded in a 8 handle range, having the smallest RTH range since late May and the lowest total volume since mid August for non holiday sessions. The duration of the day seemed to have a feel almost of a holiday to it as it was clear early that the trade would be minimal,
Heard across the wires was that the U.S. congress is nearing a 2 year debt agreement that will include an extended debt limit and that Paul Ryan is expected to be voted in as the next Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Also, Moody’s provided commentary that suggested even if a deal was not reached that it would not cause the U.S. to necessarily default. Lastly was forecast’s given by Whirlpool (N:WHR), which tends to be a fair economic indicator, suggesting some slowdown in the global economy.
Today should see more interest after a quiet Asian calendar last night, the euro calendar features the GDP release from Great Britain and then in the U.S. durable goods orders early as the FOMC meeting begins.
