Hillary Clinton confirms she’s running for US president
Last Friday, employment figures released for Canada were a pleasant surprise for analysts, as 28,700 jobs were created in March, approximately 30,000 more than had been forecast. These figures need to be put into context, however, as there were 56,800 part-time positions created while 28,200 full-time positions were lost. Lastly, the unemployment rate fell by 0.1% to reach 6.8%.
On Sunday, Hillary Clinton announced her Presidential Bid for the 2016 November U.S. elections. She made the announcement via Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) and a video, stating that she wanted to be "a champion for everyday Americans" and attempt to become the first woman to lead the world’s economic superpower. Even though they had previously been rivals, Barack Obama, who will be stepping down after his second mandate, announced that he will be supporting her bid.
Regarding economic indicators, the release on Sunday night of China’s Exports data was a big disappointment for economists, as the annual percentage fell to -15%, coming in 27% below forecasts.
This will be an important week for the loonie, because on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., the Bank of Canada will announce its next key rate decision.
