US investors will have been celebrating last night (November 6th) as the Dow Jones hit a record high, closing for the day at 15,746.
After gaining 0.8 per cent over the course of the session, the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit its highest ever closing point, buoyed by a boost to the share price of Microsoft Corporation, (MSFT).
The computer company's stocks rose by four per cent on the back of reports revealing it has moved closer to appointing a new chief executive to replace the outgoing Steve Ballmer.
Analysts believe that the Dow Jones could move even higher in the near future. "The markets are going to slowly drift up higher, unless there is something to keep it from happening," said Randy Frederick, from stock broker Charles Schwab.
The Dow Jones is not the only major global market to be performing well of late. The Sensex – which is the leading index in India – also recently hit a new record high point.
