The wind of optimism that was blowing in Brussels on Friday was short-lived. Jeroen Dijsselbloem, President of the Eurogroup and Minister of Finance of the Netherlands, said that he was pessimistic regarding the likelihood of reaching an accord with Greek government representatives. Discussions were held over the weekend, but the deadlock remains. The ministers of finance will continue their talks on Monday.
In Ukraine, the tension remains, despite a ceasefire agreement reached between the government and Pro-Russian separatists. A clash took place on Sunday to establish control over a railway junction. Leaders have asked their troops to comply with the agreement. The Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index released in the United States on Friday came in below the forecasts of analysts. Nevertheless, the confidence of consumers remains high compared to the average recorded in recent years. Many economic indicators, such as jobs figures, energy prices and access to credit are suggesting that they will be able to contribute positively to the country's economic growth.
Given that today is a holiday in most of Canada, no economic indicator will be released by Statistics Canada. Have a good day!
