Market movers today
What should have been an exciting day will turn out to be rather dull in terms of key figures. The monthly US employment report is postponed until further notice due to the government shutdown. This leaves us with no key figures of importance today on the global agenda.
Instead there will be more Fed speeches to digest with Richard Fisher (hawk, non-voter), Bill Dudley (dove, voter) and Jeremy Stein (dove, voter), who has been mentioned as a possible vice-chairman next year.
Any news on the debt ceiling and budget negotiations should of course also be tracked but we probably have to get into at least next week before any real negotiation will take place.
Italian politics are likely to attract less attention following PM Letta's successful confidence vote this week. Note though, that a senate panel today will have a forum hearing where Berlusconi will present his defence against the expulsion process.
