Market movers today
Markets are in a waiting position for the battle on raising the debt ceiling. There are still no signs of a resolution to the government shutdown.
US jobless claims will be released today despite the government shutdown. Consensus looks for a slight rise to 315k from 305k last week.
ISM non-manufacturing is expected to decline to 57.0 in September from last month's eight-year high of 58.6.
UK Service PMI has increased rapidly in recent months and it should stay flat at 60.5 in September. This would continue to signal very strong growth in the UK.
Euroarea retail sales are expected to have risen 0.2% m/m in August. Note though, that the indicator is very volatile on a month-to-month basis. Sales have recovered slightly this year as consumer confidence has improved a lot.
Many Fed members will speak tonight (Williams, Lockhart, Fisher and Powell), but given the many speeches already after the September meeting, we are unlikely to get much new information.
In Scandi markets Sweden releases services PMI at 08:30 CET.
