Market movers today
Focus in the market will continue to be on political developments in the US although a decisive breakthrough in the political wrangling does not appear to be imminent. The publication of the US foreign trade data originally scheduled for this afternoon has been cancelled due to the government shutdown. Hence, the only interesting US release today is the NFIB small business confidence.
In the euro area, attention will today mainly be on German factory orders and foreign trade data for August. These data will give the first indication on the strength of hard data in August including the industrial production data to be released across Europe later this week. We expect factory orders to have rebounded in August on the back of a surprising soft reading in July.
Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann and German Finance Minister Wolfang Schaeuble will today be speaking about the future of Europe in connection with a conference in Berlin. In addition, the Fed's Sandra Pianalto (non-voter, neutral) and Charles Plosser (non-voter, hawk) will also be speaking later today.
The Danish Economic Council will release its autumn economic report.
