Scotland could break away from the United Kingdom and form its own independent country. This would end a union that has existed for more than 300 years and produced one of the most powerful and important nations in history.
While the vote still hangs in the balance at time of writing, it has already had an economic impact on the region. Some believe that an independent Scotland could become an energy power, though it could lose a host of businesses that flee for England in order to avoid uncertainty.
Either way though, the vote looks to have an impact on a variety of British ETFs. These include the ultra popular which has a large cap focus, and which is focused on the pound. Beyond that, investors also have currency hedged and small cap options at their disposal in this market, any of which could see very interesting trading patterns in the days ahead.
