This morning, the S&P 500 Index e-mini futures (ES-U3) are trading lower by 0.50 points to 1650.50 per contract. Yields on the 10-year U.S. Treasury Note are trading around 2.85 percent. In the recent past, higher bond yields have hurt the home-builder stocks, commercial real estate stocks, mortgage REITs, and utility stocks. The yield chart is certainly the most important equity that traders can follow before the opening bell.
Last night, the Asian markets were very mixed. The popular Nikkei 225 Index (Japan), and the Shanghai Composite Index (China) both finished higher by 0.80 percent. Some of the Asian markets that did not finish so well include S&P BSE SENSEX (India) closing down 1.56 percent, JSX Composite Index (Jakarta) finishing lower by 5.58 percent, and the SET Index (Thailand) ending lower by 3.27 percent. This tells us that traders should look for early morning weakness in the iShares MSCI Indonesia Investable Market Index Fund (NYSEARCA:EIDO), iShares MSCI Thailand Inv Mrkt Index Fund (NYSEARCA:THD), and the PowerShares India Portfolio (ETF) (NYSEARCA:PIN).
