Indonesia's proposed ban on the country's exporting of mineral ores and concentrates is scheduled to take effect on Sunday 12 January.
There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding the implementation of the law, as the Indonesian government, which opposes the law, struggles to ease the impact on the country's mining industry.
Global mineral ores and concentrates supply conditions are likely to suffer a tightening. The question going into next week is how hard the tightening will be.
So far, the market for base metals has been relatively calm but markets are likely to wake up when the price effects of the law need to be factored in next week.
