10 Year Treasury Note Non-Commercial Positions:
Large speculators and traders sharply boosted their bearish net positions in the 10-year treasury note futures markets in the final week of 2016, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Friday.
The non-commercial futures contracts of 10-year treasury note futures, traded by large speculators and hedge funds, totaled a net position of -341,075 contracts in the data reported through December 27th. This was a weekly jump of -120,017 contracts from the previous week which had a total of -221,058 net contracts.
Speculative positions have fallen for four out of the last five weeks and have now been on the bearish or short side for the past five weeks.
10 Year Treasury Note Commercial Positions:
Meanwhile, the commercial traders, categorized by the CFTC as hedgers or traders engaged in buying and selling for business purposes, raised their net bullish positions to 546,029 contracts last week. This is a weekly gain of 139,045 contracts from the total net of 406,984 contracts reported the previous week.

Over the same weekly reporting time-frame, from Tuesday to Tuesday, the 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF (IEF) closed at approximately $103.81 which was a change of $-0.09 from the previous close of $103.90, according to market data from Yahoo Finance.
