Investing.com – Taiwan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Hotels, Biotech & Medical Care and Optoelectronic sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 1.41%.
The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Giantplus (TW:8105), which rose 10.00% or 0.65 points to trade at 7.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Voltronic (TW:6409) added 10.00% or 38.00 points to end at 418.00 and Hannstar Displ (TW:6116) was up 10.00% or 0.32 points to 3.52 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Lung Hwa Eltrs (TW:2424), which fell 7.44% or 2.05 points to trade at 25.50 at the close. Tong-Hwa Synth (TW:1418) declined 7.12% or 0.21 points to end at 2.74 and Space Shuttle (TW:2440) was down 5.93% or 0.54 points to 8.56.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 717 to 128.
Shares in Tong-Hwa Synth (TW:1418) fell to 3-years lows; down 7.12% or 0.21 to 2.74.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 2.94% or 1.14 to $39.73 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 2.89% or 1.25 to hit $44.38 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.20% or 2.20 to trade at $1126.80 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.43% to 32.330, while TWD/CNY rose 0.15% to 0.1958.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 95.17.
