Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.54%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which rose 1.73% or 38.00 points to trade at 2,240.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) added 1.63% or 15.40 points to end at 961.80 and Diploma PLC (LON:DPLM) was up 1.20% or 50.00 points to 4,210.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which fell 5.73% or 34.00 points to trade at 559.00 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) declined 4.01% or 30.60 points to end at 731.60 and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICGIN) was down 3.71% or 86.00 points to 2,230.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1062 to 735 and 716 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 2.71% or 64.80 to $2,326.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.19% or 0.14 to hit $75.41 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.39% or 0.31 to trade at $79.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.48% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.22% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.73% at 104.82.
