Investing.com – The European Central Bank announced that it would hold its benchmark interest rate steady at 0.1% on Thursday, in a widely expected decision.
In a press release the bank said the Governing Council of the ECB decided that the benchmark interest rate would remain at 0.1%.
ECB President, Jean-Claude Trichet was to comment on the considerations underlying the decisions at a press conference later in the day.
Following the announcement the euro was up against the U.S. dollar, with EUR/USD gaining 0.19% to hit 1.2658.
