TOKYO, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average edged up by 0.3 percent on Friday on light short-covering ahead of the weekend after closing down in the last two sessions, with investors closely watching moves in the yen.
Trading is expected to be nervous as investors are unwilling to take large positions before confirming the outcome of a Group of 20 meeting starting on Friday.
The benchmark Nikkei opened up 27.61 points at 9,404.09, while the broader Topix gained 0.1 percent to 821.57. (Reporting by Chikafumi Hodo; Editing by Joseph Radford)
