Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 added 0.36%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW), which rose 4.90% or 19.50 points to trade at 417.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) added 4.73% or 48.00 points to end at 1062.00 and Antofagasta (LONDON:ANTO) was up 4.67% or 35.00 points to 784.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Legal & General Group (LONDON:LGEN), which fell 4.37% or 12.10 points to trade at 265.10 at the close. Old Mutual Plc (LONDON:OML) declined 2.69% or 6.40 points to end at 231.10 and Sports Direct Intl Plc (LONDON:SPD) was down 2.30% or 14.50 points to 616.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1302 to 1228 and 522 ended unchanged.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.20 to $1191.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.26% or 1.83 to hit $57.99 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.45% or 2.17 to trade at $64.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.12% to 1.5054, while EUR/GBP rose 0.70% to 0.7184.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.71% at 97.55.
