Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Tobacco and Forestry & Paper sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND), which rose 3.15% or 19.00 points to trade at 623.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) added 3.08% or 12.30 points to end at 411.10 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) was up 2.98% or 19.50 points to 674.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Experian PLC (LON:EXPN), which fell 2.05% or 32.00 points to trade at 1532.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) declined 1.91% or 4.00 points to end at 205.05 and Wolseley PLC (LON:WOS) was down 1.39% or 65.00 points to 4600.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1113 to 800 and 403 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.76% or 9.42 to $1243.12 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.54% or 0.25 to hit $46.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.31 to trade at $48.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.3056, while EUR/GBP rose 0.89% to 0.8869.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.64% at 94.31.
