Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Public Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 3.66% to hit a new 6-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 20.62% or 1.85 points to trade at 10.82 at the close. Meanwhile, Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) added 11.30% or 0.78 points to end at 7.68 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was up 11.17% or 0.20 points to 1.99 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which fell 4.00% or 0.65 points to trade at 15.58 at the close. Oi SA (SA:OIBR3) declined 2.17% or 0.02 points to end at 0.90 and CETIP SA - Mercados Organizados (SA:CTIP3) was down 0.93% or 0.39 points to 41.51.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 224 to 85 and 20 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 20.62% or 1.85 to 10.82. Shares in Oi SA (SA:OIBR3) fell to 5-year lows; down 2.17% or 0.02 to 0.90.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.45% to 57.79.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.09% or 1.10 to $1256.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.52% or 1.42 to hit $41.78 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 1.18% or 1.45 to trade at $124.53 .
USD/BRL was down 0.31% to 3.4856, while EUR/BRL fell 0.49% to 3.9686.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 94.04.
