Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Materials and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.41%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which rose 9.83% or 3.630 points to trade at 40.560 at the close. Meanwhile, Stars Group Inc (TO:TSGI) added 6.23% or 2.76 points to end at 47.07 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) was up 4.91% or 0.440 points to 9.400 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb), which fell 9.75% or 0.50 points to trade at 4.63 at the close. Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) declined 7.43% or 0.46 points to end at 5.73 and Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TO:RBA) was down 4.65% or 2.160 points to 44.300.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 645 to 472 and 118 ended unchanged.
Shares in Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) fell to all time lows; falling 9.75% or 0.50 to 4.63.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.29% to 14.04 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.51% or 6.40 to $1249.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.71% or 0.52 to hit $73.28 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $77.46 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.55% to 0.7536, while CAD/EUR rose 0.43% to 0.6517.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 95.03.
