The presentation of a new model comes after the Chinese government issued new guidelines to ensure that AI-generated content aligns with official narratives. Ernie Bot by Baidu, for instance, redirects conversations away from sensitive subjects.
Baidu had previously claimed that Ernie Bot 3.5 outperformed OpenAI's GPT 3.5 in comprehension when it was released in June and even surpassed GPT-4 in certain Chinese-language capabilities.
