(The Sports Xchange) - The Golden State Warriors plan to meet as a team this fall to decide whether to make a visit to the White House to celebrate their 2017 NBA championship, head coach Steve Kerr told ESPN.

The Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games to win their second championship in three seasons. The team has not yet been invited to visit the White House.

Several members of the team, including stars Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, have criticized President Donald Trump's actions during the campaign and in office. The Warriors visited President Barack Obama in early 2016 after winning the 2015 Finals.

Washington Wizards forward Markieff Morris underwent sports hernia surgery and is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, the team announced.

The timetable means Morris will miss at least the first six games of the 2017-18 season and perhaps up to month.

The Wizards said in a statement that the surgery "went as expected."

The Charlotte Hornets promoted Stephen Silas to associate head coach and hired Eddie Jordan as an assistant coach, the team announced.

Silas, 44, is in his eighth season on the Charlotte bench and 17th in the NBA, coming to the Hornets after spending the previous 4 1/2 seasons as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors.

Jordan, 62, played seven seasons in the NBA from 1977-84 with four different teams, helping the Los Angeles Lakers to an NBA championship during the 1981-82 season.
