Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Precision Instruments, Banking and Communication sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.40%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which rose 8.46% or 27.0 points to trade at 346.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Resona Holdings, Inc. (T:8308) added 7.10% or 29.5 points to end at 445.2 and Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) was up 6.63% or 35.0 points to 563.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NEC Corp. (T:6701), which fell 11.29% or 32.0 points to trade at 251.5 at the close. Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (T:4005) declined 9.46% or 43.5 points to end at 416.5 and Meidensha Corp. (T:6508) was down 9.07% or 32.0 points to 321.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1430 to 549 and 78 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 7.41% to 24.63 a new 3-months low.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.14% or 0.06 to $41.66 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.39% or 0.17 to hit $43.70 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.19% or 2.55 to trade at $1354.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.49% to 102.53, while EUR/JPY rose 0.53% to 114.48.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.10% at 95.63.
