PARIS, Feb 9 (Reuters) - French Economy Minister Christine Lagarde said on Tuesday she was confident Greece would deliver on its fiscal programme, adding that EU partners were watching the situation carefully.
Speaking at a news conference, Lagarde did not answer a question on whether Europe was working on an aid package for Greece or whether Greece's financial woes would be discussed at an EU summit later this week.
"We discussed the Greek situation," she said at a news conference with Swedish Finance Minister Anders Borg.
"We have total confidence that Greece will carry out this programme as it should," she added.
Heavily-indebted Greece has said it aims to reduce its deficit to below 3 percent of GDP by 2012 from 12.7 percent in 2009, but concern over its accounts have triggered a backlash in the markets and raised fears about debt levels across Europe.
