Investing.com – Taiwan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Hotels and Optoelectronic sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were VIA Technologies Inc (TW:2388), which rose 9.95% or 1.00 points to trade at 11.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Asia Optical Co Inc (TW:3019) added 9.89% or 6.40 points to end at 71.10 and Ching Feng Home Fashions Co Ltd (TW:9935) was up 9.87% or 1.15 points to 12.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Jui Li Enterprise Co Ltd (TW:1512), which fell 6.28% or 0.70 points to trade at 10.45 at the close. Cheer Time Enterprise Co Ltd (TW:3229) declined 6.09% or 1.10 points to end at 16.95 and Charoen Pokphand Enterprise Taiwan Co Ltd (TW:1215) was down 4.83% or 3.50 points to 68.90.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 406 to 343 and 128 ended unchanged.
Shares in Asia Optical Co Inc (TW:3019) rose to 5-year highs; rising 9.89% or 6.40 to 71.10. Shares in Ching Feng Home Fashions Co Ltd (TW:9935) rose to 3-years highs; rising 9.87% or 1.15 to 12.80.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.40% or 0.20 to $49.91 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.42% or 0.22 to hit $52.44 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.10% or 1.32 to trade at $1267.08 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.21% to 30.232, while TWD/CNY fell 0.45% to 0.2224.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 93.31.
