Investing.com – The euro plunged to a fresh 2-day low against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday, as Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou was set to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama for talks over Greece's debt crisis.

EUR/USD plummeted 0.67% to hit 1.3543 during European afternoon trade, its lowest rate since Friday.

The pair was likely to find resistance at 1.3839, the high of Feb. 9, and support at 1.3434, last Tuesday's low and a 9-month low.

The single European currency also weakened against the yen, with EUR/JPY tumbling 1.26% to reach 121.58.

Meanwhile, Papandreou said ahead of his talks with Obama that the United States cannot afford to ignore the financial woes of his country and, by extension, Europe.

The prime minister also warned on Monday that if the turmoil in Greece “metastasizes” it “could create a new global financial crisis with implications as grave as the U.S.-originated crisis two years ago.”
