BRUSSELS, Dec 19 (Reuters) - The European Union intends to provide medium-term financial assistance to Latvia of up to 3.1 billion euros ($4.33 billion) as part of a package totalling up to 7.5 billion euros, the European Commission said on Friday.
The support will be provided with the International Monetary Fund, the Nordic countries and the World Bank, while the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Czech Republic, Poland and Estonia will also provide assistance. The financial assistance will be conditional on the implementation of a comprehensive economic policy programme and is based on maintaining Latvia's existing exchange rate peg, the Commission and the EU presidency said in a joint statement.
