TAIPEI, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Taiwan's central bank on Thursday cut interest rates by 25 basis points, its third slash in about a month, after the U.S. Federal Reserve and other central banks around the world decreased rates.
Taiwan's move will put its benchmark discount rate at 3.00 percent, down from 3.25 percent.
In early October, the central bank cut interest rates by 25 basis points in an emergency meeting held after a worldwide coordinated wave of central bank rate cuts aimed at stemming a global financial crisis.
The bank's latest move came after the United States and China kicked off what is likely to be a global round of interset rate cuts, part of a barrage of measures aimed at fighting a deep economic slowdown. [nLT458286]
On Thursday, Hong Kong also lowered its base rate charged through its overnight discount window by 50 basis points to 1.50 percent. [nHKU001093] (Reporting by Lee Chyen Yee; Editing by Ken Wills)
