Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the S&P BSE Consumer Durables, S&P BSE Healthcare and S&P BSE Capital Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty added 0.61% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.57%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NSE:BHEL), which rose 3.43% or 8.05 points to trade at 242.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NSE:BRTI) added 3.34% or 13.75 points to end at 425.70 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NSE:SUN) was up 2.79% or 31.20 points to 1150.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM), which fell 3.03% or 38.95 points to trade at 1247.80 at the close. ACC Ltd (NSE:ACC) declined 2.44% or 39.85 points to end at 1596.20 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) was down 1.31% or 1.80 points to 136.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.18% to 424.45, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was up 2.98% to settle at 241.85 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 2.69% to close at 1148.55.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.58% to 1250.20 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 1.38% to settle at 136.00 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 1.13% to 394.80 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 862 to 579 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 327 rose and 261 declined.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 1.63% to 14.4875.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.42% or 5.10 to $1199.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.04% or 0.54 to hit $52.17 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.70% or 0.41 to trade at $59.37 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.32% to 62.475, while EUR/INR fell 0.41% to 65.7620.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.59% at 100.22.
