Investing.com - U.S. stocks were down after the closing bell on Wednesday.
At the close of U.S. trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2.23%, the S&P 500 index shed 2.28%, while the Nasdaq 100 index declined 2.11%.
Earlier in the day, official data showed that non-farm employment change in the U.S. rose less-than-expected to a seasonally adjusted 38K last month, from 177K in the preceding month whose figure was revised down from 179K.
Analysts had expected U.S. non-farm employment change to rise 178K last month.
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, European stock markets closed lower. France’s CAC 40 was down 1.05%; Germany’s DAX shed 1.05%; Britain’s FTSE 100 declined 1.02%; and the EURO STOXX 50 fell 1.20%.
