Investing.com - The number of job openings in the U.S. rose less than expected in January, official data showed on Tuesday.
In a report, the U.S. Labor Department said that the number of job openings, excluding the farming industry, rose to 3.97 million in January from a downwardly revised 3.91 million in December.
Analysts had expected the number of job openings to rise to 4.03 million in January.
Following the release of the data, the U.S. dollar held on to gains against the euro, with EUR/USD shedding 0.14% to trade at 1.3857.
Meanwhile, U.S. stock markets were mostly lower after the open. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 0.2%, the S&P 500 inched down 0.15%, while the Nasdaq 100 added 0.05%.
