BUCHAREST, May 4 (Reuters) - Romania's central bank cut its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points, as expected, to a new record low of 6.25 percent on Monday, giving the recession-hit economy a helping hand.
Ten out of 15 analysts in a Reuters poll released on Monday saw a quarter-point rate cut, while four expected a half-a-percent cut and one saw rates unchanged.
The central bank will issue a detailed statement on the decision at about 1200 GMT. (Reporting by Luiza Ilie; Editing by Sam Cage)
