PARIS, May 27 (Reuters) - The current draft deal to open up world trade in the Doha round is inadequate and Brazil, China and India must contribute more to reflect their enhanced global status, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said on Thursday.
Kirk said the United States wanted World Trade Organization members to start real, substantive negotiations on a deal, which he said the U.S. accepted would be a "shot in the arm" for the world economy.
"We simply don't have a package that is economically compelling," he told a news conference after a meeting of trade ministers from major economies to discuss the state of negotiations on the 8-1/2-year-old Doha round. (Reporting by Jonathan Lynn; Editing by Charles Dick)
