Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials, Healthcare and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Methanex Corporation (TO:MX), which rose 4.80% or 1.80 points to trade at 39.31 at the close. Meanwhile, Norbord Inc (TO:OSB) added 3.18% or 0.99 points to end at 32.12 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR) was up 3.07% or 0.27 points to 9.07 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG), which fell 10.59% or 0.81 points to trade at 6.84 at the close. Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG) declined 6.83% or 1.90 points to end at 25.91 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) was down 6.22% or 0.91 points to 13.72.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 600 to 549 and 140 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.78% to 14.20.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.05% or 0.65 to $1342.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.18% or 0.56 to hit $47.97 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.64 to trade at $49.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.36% to 0.7747, while CAD/EUR rose 0.38% to 0.6849.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 94.48.
