Investment Strategy

The Fund aims to provide capital growth over the long term. To outperform the TOPIX Index by at least 2% per annum, before the deduction of charges, over any 5 year period. The Fund invests at least 80% of its assets in a concentrated portfolio of shares (also known as equities) of companies, of any size, in any industry, in Japan. Companies will be incorporated, headquartered, listed on an exchange in, or deriving significant revenue from, Japan. The portfolio may be concentrated in terms of its number of holdings and/or the size of its largest holdings.

Biography Junichi Inoue is Head of Japanese Equities and a portfolio manager at Janus Henderson Investors, a position he has held since joining Henderson in 2016. Prior to Henderson, he worked at DIAM Asset Management, where he was a fund manager for global REITs on the broader equity team from 2012. Before that, he was with BlackRock for 14 years after originally being hired by Mercury Asset Management in Tokyo in 1998. (Mercury Asset Management was acquired by Merrill Lynch in 1997; their asset management business merged with BlackRock in 2006.) During this time, he covered Japanese equities as an analyst and portfolio manager and interacted with global/EAFE teams in London. From 2002 to 2006, he was based in London, working as part of the global equity team covering Japanese markets. In 2006, he moved back to Tokyo, where he managed fundamental Japan equity portfolios across all capitalisations until his departure in 2012. Junichi holds a bachelor of laws degree from Hitotsubashi University. He has 29 years of financial industry experience.

He joined Henderson in 1987 and became a Fund Manager in 1991. Wood-Martin has over 25 years of investment management expertise with the majority of his career specializing in Japanese equities.

After spending three years working in Henderson's Tokyo office, he returned London in 1991. In 1997, he was appointed head of Japanese equities, a team of five fund managers. William now works closely with Jeremy Hall, who is Co-Manager of all the funds managed by the Japanese Specialist team. In 1993, he assumed his current responsibilities as Director of Henderson Global Investors. William earned a BA (Hons), Political Science from Exeter University.
