Universal Copper kicks off summer exploration in BC

Universal Copper Ltd (TSXV:UNV) is forging ahead on exploration at its poplar copper-gold-silver-moly property, by following up targets identified earlier.

Poplar is one of two copper plays the re-named Universal Copper (formerly Tasca Resources) is focused on - the other being the North Block of the Gachala project in Colombia, that UNV acquired from Max Resource Corp.

While UNV waits for the Gachala transaction to go through, it is turning its attention to the Poplar project, located near Houston, BC.

Before it drills the 62,000-hectare land package, Universal’s team wants to ground-survey gold targets that were identified during previous exploration programs, and by a long-wave-infrared (LWIR) survey completed at the end of 2017.

LWIR is a new mineral exploration technique that employs satellite imagery to uncover targets that were previously unavailable to exploration companies. LWIR bands can penetrate vegetation and another ground cover, to mathematically “fingerprint” mineralized areas.

That LWIR survey, done over 620 square kilometers, highlighted a 28-kilometer trend “interpreted to be hydrothermal alteration corridor extending from the Silver Queen property through the entire Poplar property, and identified numerous new exploration targets both within the corridor and throughout the remainder of the property as shown on the LWIR Sericite Interpretation Map,” according to the December 11, 2017 news release on SEDAR.

Aben starts drilling at Yukon play

Drilling has commenced at the Justin project in the Yukon - one of two gold properties being worked this summer by Aben Resources Ltd (TSXV:ABN).

Up to 10 holes (1,350m) of drilling is planned for the POW Zone, to further test the intrusion-related gold system. Back in 2011-12, drill crews unearthed intercepts at POW ranging from trace values to highs of 1.19 g/t Au over 60.0 m (including 2.47 g/t Au over 21.0m) and 1.49 g/t Au over 46.4m.

The second phase of drilling at Justin will target the Lost Ace Zone, where 2018 trenching returned gold values ranging from trace to 20.8 grams per tonne (g/t) gold over 4.4 meters, including 88.2 g/t gold over 1.0 m. Lost Ace is just two kilometers west of the POW Zone, discovered in 2010.

When the rotary air blast (RAB) drill arrives, the small, mobile unit will explore the Lost Ace Zone – punching in 20 holes, 50m deep. A RAB drill is considered to be a cost-effective tool for quickly evaluating surface and near-surface gold mineralization. It is often used as the next level of exploration after trenching.

Exploration work at Justin is expected to take three to four weeks. After that, Aben will pivot west, to British Columbia’s highly-prospective Golden Triangle and its Forrest Kerr project.

Thucydides Trap and gold

At Ahead of the Herd, we’ve been talking about a potential war between China and for over a year. It’s not news to us. What is new, is the “mainstreaming” of the topic. In this article, we ask the question: How likely is it that the US could go to war with China?

To tackle this question, we need to first look at the current situation the world’s two superpowers find themselves in. Next, an admittedly academic exercise, but very interesting to run through, as to what could happen. Here we take a dive into The Thucydides Trap. Then a discussion of how war could be avoided. And finally, what can investors do to protect themselves?

When an emerging power attempts to supplant a hegemonic power in international politics, major conflict often ensues. This is the definition of “The Thucydides Trap” as explained in a recent op-ed piece in The Japan Times.

Rockridge finds more high-grade copper found at Knife Lake

The results from the last six holes of a 12-hole diamond drilling program have come back to Rockridge Resources Ltd (TSXV:ROCK), and they show excellent copper grades from its Knife Lake VMS deposit in Saskatchewan.

The 1,053-meter drill program, completed in spring 2019, had two objectives: to confirm the tenor of mineralization (the percentage of metals found in the sulfides) reported by previous operators, and to expand known zones of mineralization.

The company is aiming to confirm, and expand on, historical drilling with the goal of completing an NI 43-101-compliant resource on the property.

America’s critical metals mine - Cypress Development Corp

In this article we take a deep dive into critical metals - specifically, lithium and rare earths - to determine what makes them critical to the United States, why that is important, and what the US can do to lessen its dependence on foreign critical mineral suppliers.

We also present a way out of the thorny dilemma the US finds itself in, regarding years of neglect in developing “mine to battery” and “mine to magnet” supply chains. What if one mine could do it all, provide US battery- and auto-makers all the lithium they need for EV production, and a steady supply of rare earth elements for a nascent North American permanent magnets industry? This mine exists, today.

The company behind the project is making good progress towards a pre-feasibility study that aims to replicate the robust numbers achieved in last year’s preliminary economic assessment. That company is Cypress Development Corp. (TSXV:CYP) and its future mine is the Clayton Valley Lithium Project in Nevada.
